Department of Geographical

Brief:

In academic year 2021-2022, Department of Geography was created, and evening study was created, and postgraduate studies (Masters) were opened in year 2017-2018, and in year 2021-2022 a doctoral study (human geography) and a diploma of sensing and geographic information systems were developed.

Vision:

        The Department seeks to reach an advanced scientific center in geographical  study field, and to employ modern geographical studies to serve science and society , goals and plans for the comprehensive development of human cadres, seeks to develop the university studies program, which includes opening a laboratory for geographical techniques and services, which will be developed, to become one of the advanced laboratories that contribute to increase scientific activity and labor market, to develop a doctoral study (natural geography) in line with recent developments in the field of modern scientific and geographical research. The department strives for openness to ministries and government departments to exchange experiences in order to advance the human outcomes of the department.

Message:

Preparing qualified scientific cadres for applied research study in all fields eligible to study in a scientific and technical manner through the use of modern and advanced technologies in the field of studies and computing in geographic information systems, which contributes to serve more and contributes to provide the labor market with qualified expertise scientifically and academically.

Goals:

For geography to be one of the sciences that contributes more broadly to serving and solving problems faced by society, it is necessary to start using applied methods to solve these problems in order to avoid the traditional academic proposal that may look to solve these problems without contributing to finding ways to solve them. Therefore, the use of applied geography will contribute to these solutions, we must make it more than a rigid subject through which only geographical knowledge passes.

Therefore, if it has to make an activity to develop geography science through the practical and training side so that it is possible through its theories and curricula to better understand the manifestations and phenomena of natural and human presentation as the focus of academic geographical study, so it can be through what follows:

  1.  Serious attempt to apply theories, geographical knowledge, techniques and skills of geographical research to identify the nature and causes of environmental, economic and social problems that humans may face, and then provide policies and solutions to governmental and private institutions concerned with these problems.

2.The use of geographical sense in solving the problem and its contribution to decision-making related to it in evaluating the plans that lead to its solution, such as environmental assessment, to know the environmental risks and their repercussions on society, develop the necessary plans for their directions, control environmental changes, and to monitor effects of the proposed policies.

  1. 1. Applied engineering science must depend on modern technologies in research such as remote sensing, images, visuals, aerial calculator, computer and geographic information.

  2. It is known that geography has a close relationship with planning and it is able to provide advice and planning to solve problems in many fields such as environmental changes or improving the urban environment, solving population problems, deterioration of natural resources, proper and effective planning in land uses. Therefore, it is necessary to cooperate with Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation in Areas of advice and facilities required.

  3. It is necessary to focus in applied geographical research on the goal through which we seek to solve the problems facing society, as this matter receives the attention of applied geography more than interest of academic geography in it.

4. The geographer who enters the labor market has a greater role in applying his geographical experience as an expert or consultant in field work in economic and urban projects and resource conservation than the geographer who works in the academic field only.

  • Work in the ministries of Planning, Housing, Environment, Transportation and other ministries, institutions and municipalities in various related fields.

  • Work in research centers and geographical studies.
